HBS201 Differential Diagnosis of Skin Disorders

Unit Description

HBS 201 Differential Diagnosis of Skin Disorders examines in detail the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment protocols of dermatological conditions. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of infection and pathology prior to studying some of the more common dermatological conditions and diseases such as acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, to name a few. In addition, students will gain an in-depth understanding of the role of clinical aesthetician in the treatment of common dermatological conditions and diseases. There will be opportunity to develop an individual case study in readiness for clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit the student will be able to:

1. Identify and classify the characteristics  of disease and disease processes
2. Describe the vascular and cellular changes in the inflammatory process
3. Describe common dermatological conditions and diseases
4. Understand common dermatological conditions such as acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis
5. Differentiate between diseases on the basis of aetiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology and clinical manifestations
6. Evaluate and communicate case study presentations on dermatological conditions
